Kauai Beaches
Since Kauai is the oldest of all the Hawaiian Islands, it is blessed with having more sand beaches per mile of shoreline than any other. That’s one of the things that makes Kauai so special, the beaches are incredible and are usually found on multiple “Best beaches in the World” lists yearly. Many are accessible by driving up to them, others are more secluded and require a hike in, and still others require a hike over lava rock or creeks to access. They truly are special and are some of the most spectacular beaches in the world. This is the number one reason that Kauai is so special, its beaches!
If you are going to swim in the ocean, you need to keep several things in mind. The waves are stronger here in the open ocean than most other places. Rip currents can form, cease and form again with no warning. Large “rogue” waves can come ashore with no warning. These usually occur when two or more waves fuse at sea, becoming a larger wave. Even calm seas are no guarentee of safety.
Never turn your back on the ocean, Never swim alone, Never swim in the mouth of a river, Never swim in murky water.
When in doubt, Don’t go out!
When you visit the islands make sure to explore the beaches on Kauai, you will find many of them listed and described here broken up by areas. Have fun, grab a lunch, sunscreen, a good book and get to the beach!
