Plantation Days Kauai

http://www.koloaplantationdays.com/

Over 20 events celebrate the plantation heritage and modern-day vitality of Kauai’s south shore communities of Koloa and Poipu, during this 9-day family-oriented festival. Each year, the festival brings visitors and residents together to learn about Koloa’s multicultural history, experience a diverse range of local foods, culture and activities, explore the area’s unique ecology and archaeology, and enjoy the warm hospitality of the south shore’s resorts, golf courses, and other neighborhood venues.

This year’s colorful parade on Saturday, July 24 through Koloa town celebrates the festival’s 25th anniversary with floral floats, walking and equestrian units, decorated vehicles, vintage cars, and musicians. After the parade, stroll to Knudsen (Koloa) Ball Park for an all-day celebration with a delicious variety of ethnic foods, keiki rides and activities, all day entertainment featuring the cultures that comprised the plantation camps and Hawaii musical talents, a silent auction, and Kauai’s largest craft fair of Hawaii-made products.

Koloa Plantation Days is held on Kauai’s south shore every year in July. The many ethnic groups that came to Hawaii to work on sugar plantations, and the Hawaiians who welcomed them, are celebrated through music, dance, costumes, and food throughout this nine-day festival.

Held in the area where Hawaii’s first sugar plantation was founded in 1835, Koloa Plantation Days comprises a lively, family-oriented slate of events that showcase the area’s social history, its natural history, and its diverse cultural traditions. In addition, numerous events allow attendees to enjoy the sports activities and entertainment available at the gracious resorts in the Poipu and Koloa area. Most events are outdoors and free of charge.

Our Cultural Heritage Koloa Plantation Days will also celebrate the immigrants who came from Philippines, Europe, the Azores, Japan, Korea, China, and elsewhere who contributed traditions, music, dances, and foods to the rich melting pot that is Hawaii. At the Sheraton Ho`olaulea, there will be varied entertainment and all kinds of food, from sushi to panini, Pacific Rim and barbecue. You’ll see more of these cultures in the parade and ball park celebration; and at the craft fair, ethnic cooking demonstration, Polynesian revue, and luau during the week.
